How to select natural stone tiles and flooring?

We can supply and install a wide variety of stone which is suitable for a range of different applications.

There will be a type of natural stone that can go almost anywhere in the home. The skill is to select the correct stone, as each product has different attributes with its own unique properties and disadvantages.

There is such a huge choice available that you can find stone to achieve any look you desire, from dark riven slate to milk coloured limestone, rough tumbled travertine to smooth polished marble. Stone comes in a huge selection of colours and textures.

Remember that a stone floor will last a long time so you need to take your time and choose carefully. Stone is a natural material so expect there to be random colour and pattern variation – each piece is unique.Flooring Surrey

Limestone

Limestone's wide array of shades, colours and textures make this product a very popular stone, as it works equally well in both traditional and modern interiors. The sheer choice of honed, polished, aged, brushed and tumbled limestone that can be placed on the wall or floor has added appeal to this product.

Slate

Slate is a very fine grained rock of mostly microscopic clay minerals with some microscopic quartz and calcite. Slate can also contain some of the same minerals found in granite, which make some slates iridescent and/or hard. Like limestone and marble, the colour comes from trace metals. The wild colours on some slates are the result of splitting the slate along natural layers, which exposes the metals to the atmosphere, causing oxidisation. Slate can come in n almost smooth surface or a riven finish depending on your desired finish.

Travertine

Due to the way Travertine was created millions of years ago, some small holes lying beneath the surface may appear during the first few months of wear. These are easily filled, giving decades of hard wear, as proven all over the world. We can supply an install filled and unfilled stone, each creating a different feel, with unfilled creating an 'aged' look soon after initial use.

Marble

Marble is formed from calcium carbonate that has recrystallised through metamorphism due to heat and pressure. Marble's crystal structure allows a high polish to be applied, which accentuates the beautiful colours and veining for which it is famous.

Tumbled stone and mosaic

The stone is subtly aged by a tumbling action, removing the sharp edges and face to provide a stunning soft effect. We can supply beautiful tumbled stones and mosaics at fantastic prices. Quality of finish and perfect spacing are all prerequisites which allow us to create the perfect finish.

Granite & Basalt

Granite and Basalt are amongst some of the hardest natural stones available to man. Granite was formed from molten magma deep below the earth's crust which has cooled slowly over millions of year and solidified. Basalt is a result of molten magma erupting from volcanoes and cooling quickly forming a solid mass filled with tiny air pockets.

Sandstone

Although sandstone can be used internally, it is more suited to external applications, since it has a coarser, open grained texture. This makes it generally more abrasive than other stones and therefore appropriate for areas requiring greater slip resistance.

Sealants

To ensure that your new natural stone tiles always look thier

best, we recommend that once your project has been

completed we seal the tiles, as almost all natural stones will

stain if left untreated. Once done, you can be confident that

you’ll enjoy years of good looks and easy maintenance.

There is a choice between an invisable stain blocking seal, a

colour enhancing matt finish seal or a colour enhancing gloss

finish seal. These different finishes can dramatically change the

look of your finished project so we advise treating a small area

of unfitted tiles and placing them in-situ to truely see the

different appearences these seals can produce.
